Nikon AI-S lenses with added electronics to communicate with the camera body, introduced in 1988.

AI-P lenses enable more metering options than 'non-chip' lenses. The only AI-P lenses are the 500 f/4 P, 1200-1700 f/5.6-8 P and 45 f/2.8 P.
