Single-lens reflex (SLR)

A single-lens reflex (SLR) camera has single lens for viewing the scene and taking the photo, with a mirror to reflect the image from the lens into the viewfinder.

The advantage of this is that the image you see is (almost) exactly the image the camera will take. The mirror flips up out of the way to shoot the image.
