Nikon FG resources
7 April 2022
Compact 35mm SLR that was the successor to the EM, offering a wider range of functionality. It was the first Nikon SLR to incorporate a fully automatic Program mode, a year before the better-known Nikon FA, and also offers electronically timed shutter speeds from 1/1000sec to 1sec, plus a mechanical 1/90sec as a backup in case of flat batteries. Like the EM it has a shutter speed scale visible to the right of the image in the viewfinder, but instead of indicating shutter speed with a needle as the EM does the FG uses a system of LED lights. Doesn't have the bullet-proof build quality of the senior Nikons but still a fun and effective film SLR. Not to be confused with the later FG-20, which lacks the Program mode and has the EM-style needle indicator in the viewfinder.
