Nikon FE Mid-range 35mm SLR with electromechanical shutter. Alongside the mechanical FM that debuted the year before it ushered in a new era for Nikon's mid-range products that swept aside the old Nikkormats. As well as the electronically-controlled shutter, the FE also has a more useful match-needle metering system in place of the FM's +0- LED display. Beautifully built, with handling to match, and available at sensible prices, the FE is a great choice for starting in film photography.

Identification No model badge on these cameras but the serial number on the back starts with 'FE...' You can also tell you're looking at an FE because it will have an M90 mechanical shutter speed position on the shutter speed dial.

Common faults Jammed shutter/mirror. Usually this is because the batteries are flat – turn the shutter dial to M90 and the mirror will return. Fit new batteries and the FE should work as normal.

Used values £75-125 (read more about the used values we quote)
