Depth of field

The amount of an image which is acceptably in focus, from the point closest to the camera to the point furthest away.
Depth of field increases as the lens is stopped down to a smaller aperture.
The picture above has shallow depth of field: the centre of the dandelion is sharp but the grass behind is out of focus.
