Advanced Photo System (APS)
Advanced Photo System was a consumer film format in use 1996-2011 with drop-in loading and a choice of three image formats:
- APS-C or Classic, 25.1 x 16.7mm frame
- APS-H or High Definition, 30.2 x 16.7mm frame
- APS-P or Panoramic, 30.2 x 9.5mm frame
In fact the camera shot all images in APS-H format and the APS-C and APS-P images were created by cropping the image, the photographer's choice of format being recorded in an optical (Optical IX) or magnetic (Magnetic IX) code on the film.
APS was made obsolete by the increasing affordability of digital cameras and mobile phones with built-in cameras.
